Football icon David Beckham brought the classic Bend It Like Beckham vibe to life during a visit to Doha, where he spent a memorable morning playing football with schoolchildren as part of the Healthy Cities Schools Programme. Beckham didn’t just observe – he actively joined students from The First Assalam School and Sherborne Qatar on the pitch, sharing laughs, life lessons and plenty of ball time in a session they’re unlikely to forget.
Addressing the group, Beckham lightened the mood with humour about his own playing career, mentioning his time at clubs like Manchester United, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, and his stint as England captain. The children were already familiar with his legacy and eagerly engaged in both discussion and play.
The visit wasn’t just about kicking a ball around. Before taking to the field, Beckham spoke with students about healthy habits, including diet, hydration and sleep – key elements of the initiative aimed at promoting wellbeing through sport. Organised in partnership between Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health and the Generation Amazing Foundation, the programme uses football-based activities to help young people adopt healthier lifestyles.
Beckham’s involvement went beyond a brief appearance, as he showed genuine interest in the children’s lives and learning, making the event both inspiring and impactful for those present.
